Weeroona's History of Empowering Support
Throughout our journey, Weeroona has been a beacon of empowerment for individuals with disabilities and their families in the Gympie region. Our history is marked by pivotal moments that have shaped our commitment to comprehensive care:
From our inception in 1989, we recognised the pressing need for support services through public engagement and surveys.
Forming a cohesive working group in 1990 marked a significant step towards securing vital funding for tailored support services.
In 1991, Weeroona Association Inc was born, with funding from the Home & Community Care Program (HACC) laying the foundation for our commitment to meaningful care.
In 1999, we received funding from Disability Services Queensland (DSQ), leading to the Family Support Program (FSP) that addressed complex needs within families of children with disabilities.
The introduction of the Moving Ahead Program (MAP) in 2001, which later evolved into Post School Services (PSS), paved the way for young adults to transition into adulthood with vital life skills, education, vocational training, and community integration.
The game-changing moment arrived in 2019 with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), granting participants and families unprecedented choice and control over their support services.
Today, we continue to refine the NDIS funding model to serve individuals of all ages and disability types in the Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions. Our services embody a commitment to individual and family needs, championing equitable access, flexibility, and professional standards.

Gordon is the current President of Weeroona Association. With a long spanning career in public health, Gordon actively engages in an array of health promotion initiatives, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the well-being of community.

Lynne is passionate about helping people be the best they can be - whether that be in business, their work environment or in life. This may be as simple as helping them find the right connections to take their ideas and dreams further or assisting with more 'nuts and bolts' roles and responsibilities.

Julie Walker
SECRETARY
Julie is a former Gympie Regional Council Councillor and a respected community leader. She currently serves as the Secretary of the Weeroona Association and dedicates her time as a volunteer at the Gympie Information Centre. In addition, Julie also hosts guests as an Airbnb host, contributing to the local community in multiple ways.

Angela Treichel
COMMITTEE MEMBER
Angela was admitted as a Solicitor in 2012 and is the founder of AJT Legal. Her experience spans the field of Property Law, Conveyancing, Estate Planning and Administration, Commercial Law and Family Law.
Angela enjoys stand up paddle boarding and yoga. Angela’s favourite footy team is the Sydney Roosters.
